Lyons hiring high school Mathematics teacher for 2025-2026
Lyons Community School is united in its commitment to unconventional learning, unconditional support, and the unlimited potential of our students. Located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we are a small, progressive, unscreened New York City public secondary school with a liberal arts focus. We are members of the NYS Performance Standards Consortium. All students present Roundtable presentations in their core subjects twice a year, and high school students complete graduation-level Performance Based Assessment Task (PBAT) requirements instead of most Regents exams. Our academic program includes inquiry-based projects, field studies classes where students travel to various sites across the city, and skills instruction tailored to meet students' needs.
We are looking for a high school Math educator eager to help lead a redesign of our assessment system. As a member of the NYS Performance Standards Consortium’s Math Cohort, Lyons is focused on building a comprehensive scope and sequence that emphasizes students’ ability to apply mathematical ideas and principles in problem-solving contexts.
We seek a mathematics teacher who is passionate about problem-based learning and excited to rethink what makes an effective math classroom and help strengthen alternatives to standardized testing.
Lyons Community School is committed to unconventional learning, unconditional support, and unlimited potential. Serving students in grades 6–12, we offer personalized learning experiences that inspire discovery, growth, and success into adulthood. Our inclusive environment encourages active learning through internships, field studies, sports, restorative practices, and social justice work—helping students build strong identities and thrive in college, careers, and the world.
We look forward to hearing from you! Please send your resume and cover letter to lyons@lyonscommunityschool.org.
